Oh My Mittens Part 3

So, I have knit one mitten.  Yes, it has a few blemishes and some kinks to work out in the pattern...and yes, perhaps a different yarn choice might work better...but hell yeah!  I made a mitten!  Pattern and all!  If you can't tell, I'm pretty proud of myself.  Some of my trouble spots that I need to work out include the length and/or thumb position as well as the width across the palm.  My hand is fairly slim and long, so the tightness across the palm can't be good for a "one size fits most" pattern and my fingers butting up against the top also needs correcting.  These seem like easy fixes, though.  The dilemma comes with the yarn.  If you read the previous mitten posts, you know I wanted to use the yarn my sister brought me back from Ireland.  There was only one skein that had the appropriate weight, so I had to supplement the contrasting color with non-sister-brought-back-from-Ireland yarn.  However, the yarn that did hail from across the pond was single ply, which I've never actually knitted with prior to this (turns out it can be a fragile beast) and the contrasting color is a two-ply. While both are wool and technically the same weight yarn, I believe the mitten would be better suited to have two yarns with the same ply.  The photo shown here is pre-blocking, but I am debating on even taking the time to make a matching mitten or scrapping this one and starting with two yarns of the same weight and probably even the same brand.  I feel like that would present more consistency for the pattern, as well.  Overall, though, this has been fun.  The only thing I don't like about knitting mittens (or socks) is that you have to knit two of the same thing right in a row if  you want your project to be useful.  Who wants just one mitten?  I will bite the bullet on this one, though, and keep on keeping on to see where this can take me.
